The Riverbed series
Twenty-four pieces made with clay we dug after the spring floods, glazed in a celadon we make from our own kiln's ash.
The river did the mixing.
After the floods in April, a bank downstream from the studio collapsed and showed a seam of grey clay full of iron and sand. We dug a few buckets, sieved it, and blended it one to three with our usual stoneware.
It throws beautifully and fires darker than anything we've made. Under the celadon, the iron comes through as tiny brown freckles — like gravel under clear water. Hence the name.
Each piece is signed with a small river stone pressed into the foot.
