Practice

What we do

Four kinds of work, one long view.

i

Forest restoration

Replanting logged and burned land, reconnecting streams and designing for natural succession. Includes monitoring for ten years.

ii

Trail design

Hiking and accessible trails that follow the land, drain well and protect sensitive habitats — from route finding to construction drawings.

iii

School & community forests

Small forests on school grounds and in neighbourhoods, planted with the people who will grow up with them.

iv

Ecological planning

Habitat surveys, wildlife corridors and landscape plans for counties, land trusts and tribes.

Questions

How long until it looks like a forest?

Ten years for a young woodland, fifty for a forest you can get lost in — and the best part takes a century.

Do you work with tribes and land trusts?

Yes — many of our projects are led by or co-designed with tribal nations and local land trusts.

Can volunteers help plant?

We love it. Most restorations include community planting days in winter.
