Three generations of keeping our word

Stanwick has been family-owned since Walter Stanwick opened a two-room office above a Richmond hardware store in 1958. The name on the door has never changed — and neither has the handshake behind it.

Our story

Built slowly, on purpose.

Walter Stanwick built churches and schools in central Virginia with a crew of eleven. His son Thomas took the company into hospitals and higher education in the 1980s; his granddaughter Elizabeth, our President since 2014, opened offices in Raleigh and Washington, DC.

We have grown carefully, turning down work we could not staff with our own people. Today 640 employees — a third of them with us for more than fifteen years — deliver around $850 million of construction a year.
